Winnie the Witch: First contact with English literature
In our Pool session year 1 students read their first book in English. They got to know Winnie the Witch and her cat Wilbur. They tried to understand the story by looking at pictures, listening to an audio-book version and reading the story using their own voices for spectacular story-telling. Furthermore, they applied their knowledge about the story creatively by drawing the witch (using the right colours) and describing their favourite character using the grammar and words we have studied in the first few weeks.
Finally, there were lots of fun games and activities to practise the words used in the book. Overall, the kids all agreed, that Winnie is a really funny witch and they like her cat a lot. What is more, they learnt, that everybody deserves a second chance.
