CLIL - Content and Language Integrated Learning
On January 13th 2010 students from class 1a made their second experience with our learning platform Moodle. What is more, they were the first ones in our school to be involved in CLIL – a new approach to IT in open learning contexts. CLIL literally means Content and Language Integrated Learning
but, on a second level, it means great fun as students find out about amazing parallels and funny ways of combining English and Maths. That morning students realized that it's possible to use English to calculate as well as to calculate to tackle an English issue. This powerful combination involved watching video scenes, taken from the well-known movie „Saving Nemo", calculating time spans by using practical insights gained by measuring movements in our school building, applying vocabulary related to daily routines in combination with a song about an octopus and his garden, etc. This perfect match between content and language generated profound interest and motivation in our students and showed that every combination – as weird as it may seem- can be possible and makes Maths and English a more meaningful and memorable learning experience.
