Your own private soap
All the world's a daily soap.... but what is the secret that makes soap operas so popular among the audience at any age? What makes us turn on the TV at a certain time every week? Why are soap operas more popular with women than men? What reasons are there to explain their popularity?
And so on ... In order to find answers to all these questions, students of year 5 indulged in the history of soap operas, studied its conventions and certain types of standard characters that apply to soaps all over the world. One of the highlights of our classroom activities was the production of an own pilot of a radio soap. First, students undertook some personal observations on how soap operas are made and later planned their first episode. After this interesting excursion in the creative process of writing and its translation into action, we enjoyed listening to potential future highlights in the history of the radio soap. Here is one example out of many.
